Deer Park’s Supportive, Highly Motivated Eighth Graders Move Up

With another three years of their educational journey completed, 313 eighth graders from Deer Park’s Robert Frost Middle School proudly walked into the gymnasium on the evening of June 23 as family members applauded and cheered.
“They are a highly motivated group of students and spent the past three years growing into young men and women,” Principal Dr. Eliana Levey said at the moving-up ceremony. Addressing the students, she told them they each have something worthwhile to contribute to the world and all have the potential for excellence which can be achieved through hard work and perseverance.
A farewell to Robert Frost address was given by Chelsea Lewis, president of the student council. She highlighted how the class has consistently supported each other and also said the success wouldn’t be possible without the encouragement of their family, teachers and staff.
“To my fellow graduates, as we begin this new chapter in our lives, remember to believe in yourself, work hard and take new risks as we step into new opportunities,” Lewis said.
Dr. Levey announced students of recognition from each class, from algebra to World of Technology. Associate principals Kevin Quirk and Richard Santoro also presented several student honors including the New York State Comptroller Award, New York State Civic Ambassador Award, Deer Park Knights of Columbus Community Service Award, New York State Attorney General Triple Award, Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and Academic Achievement, and the Chief Raymond Downey Scholarship.
After the presentation of moving-up certificates, Dr. Levey officially introduced the Deer Park High School Class of 2030. They had one more piece of business as middle schoolers left, as they returned to the gym shortly after the ceremony for their eighth grade dance.
