The magical moments were many at the four moving-up ceremonies held across the Deer Park School District in June, as students from the four buildings – John Quincy Adams Primary School, May Moore Primary School, John F. Kennedy Intermediate School and Robert Frost Middle School – began the next phase of their educational careers.

May Moore’s outdoor celebration came first on June 6, delayed by rain but saved due to heroic efforts to dry the seats. Musical numbers, directed by Kristen Lombardo, included “Possibilities,” “The Climb” and “I Feel Like Dancing.” JFK’s event for fifth graders moving up to middle school was next, held in the school’s courtyard on June 13. JQA’s moving up was held on the rain date of June 20, highlighted by a Billy Joel theme, with the second graders singing classics like “Piano Man,” “Goodnight My Angel” and “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” Finally, Frost’s celebration came that evening, filling the school’s gymnasium with proud parents ready to watch their eighth graders get ready for high school.

“You came to school ready to learn every day, and you weren’t willing to let anything stop you from having an extraordinary second-grade year,” May Moore Principal Tammy Alcalde told her charges. “You truly are a remarkable group. As you get ready to continue your school journey at John F. Kennedy Intermediate School, we couldn’t be prouder of you. You will continue to shine, and we know that you’ll handle every challenge that comes your way. Continue to make your school community proud. Continue to have big dreams and be willing to do the work to achieve them. Continue to be more kind, more safe and more responsible.”

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome each and every one of you,” Principal Kelly Benson said to the excited second graders. “First and foremost, we want you to know how delighted we are to have you as part of our school family. Each and every one of you brings unique talents, ideas and perspectives that will contribute to our school. We believe that every student has the potential to excel and achieve great things, and we are here to support and guide you every step of the way. The transition to a new school can feel like an adventure filled with both anticipation and a touch of uncertainty. As you prepare to embark on this exciting new chapter, I encourage you to approach it with an open mind and adventurous spirit. Embrace the challenges that lie ahead, for they will only make you stronger. Embrace the friendships that you will make and the knowledge that you will gain. In a few short months, when September arrives, you'll be welcomed with open arms, ready to embark on this incredible third grade journey together. So, my young Falcons, spread your wings, let your spirits soar and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime at John F. Kennedy Intermediate School.”
