John Quincy Adams Primary School was busy again this year celebrating Diwali, which began on Oct. 31. In Diana Cotrone’s music classes, students were taught traditional songs in Hindi, and performed Dandiya dances to commemorate the holiday. Meanwhile, in Ashley Woolsey’s art classes, students learned how to create and design their own Mehndi skin decorations with henna, Rangoli designs and Diya lamps. The students also read Diwali-themed books such as “Binny’s Diwali” by Thrity Umrigar and “It’s Diwali by Surishtha and Kabir Sehgal.
“It was a great celebration for all of us,” Cotrone said.
