Students at Robert Frost Middle School were buzzing at this year’s spelling bee, held on Feb. 25. A total of 44 students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades competed in classroom mini-bees before winners moved on to the buildingwide competition. After 18 rounds, eighth grader Shayan Hassan was named the winner, with fellow eighth graders Giada Livingston in second place and Nath Fahl in third. Hassan and Livingston qualified to move on and compete in the regional Bay Shore Buzz Countywide Middle School Spelling Bee, hosted at Bay Shore Middle School on March 14 against winners from around Suffolk County, with Hassan winning second place overall after 28 rounds of competition. 

“Congratulations to all participants,” Director of ELA, Reading and Library Justin Uliano said.
